FAQ

You have questions, we have answers

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check in is at 4pm., and check out is at 11am. Please contact the front desk if you require a late check out. A fee of up to half a night’s stay may apply, depending on the hour of late check out, and based on the current occupancy of the hotel.

What are your deposit and cancellation policies?

Deposit Policy: A payment of the first night of the stay is taken at booking. There are no exceptions to this policy. Charges for in-house activities will not be taken at booking—like all other incidentals, they will be charged at check out.

Cancellation Policy: 72 hours prior to arrival, November 1st – April 30th || 5 days prior to arrival, May 1st – June 30th & September 1st – October 31st || 7 days prior to arrival, July 1st – August 31st.

Cancellations outside the 72-hour and 5-day cancellation periods will result in a one night’s room and tax forfeit. Cancellations outside the 7-day cancellation period will result in two nights’ room and tax forfeit.

There are no exceptions available, so we encourage you to call the front desk in advance if you have any questions or concerns about your upcoming stay.

Additionally, The Lake House places a hold of $200 per night at check-in for all guests. This is a pre-authorization to cover any additional charges the guest may charge to their room. The guest is able to send restaurant charges, activity charges, spa charges, and more to their room folio. We must have assurances at check in that the credit card posted will have enough funds on it to cover possible additional charges. All funds not used for additional charges will be released at check out. We recommend using a credit card for this charge.

It is NOT recommended for guests to use a debit card for this purpose. The initial hold as well as the final charge at check out may appear simultaneously on their account for a significant amount of time—up to 10 full business days. The initial hold is eventually released, but to avoid this inconvenience for our guests, we strongly encourage you to use a credit card.

What accessibility measures are in place?

We want all of our guests to feel welcome, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant rooms are available on every level. Our public spaces adhere to the requirements of the ADA. Please contact us at 800-228-2801 for any specific questions.

What is your pet policy?

Dogs under 35 pounds are welcome at The Lake House! There is a flat fee of $100 plus a nightly cleaning charge of $50. Please let us know if your furry friend will be joining us, and we will provide a dog bed and welcome bag that includes treats and toys. Dogs must be on leashes during their stay here, and pet owners are responsible for waste pickup throughout the property (we will provide you with bags). We know accidents do happen, though—please contact the front desk for any pup slip ups. If you plan to leave your furry friend in the room while you go out, they must be cozied up in a crate for our maintenance staff to service the room, just for everyone’s safety. Four legged guests are not allowed at the pool area or inside of dining establishments, though in warm weather, dogs are allowed in our restaurant’s outdoor seating areas —please contact the front desk with any specific questions. And we know better than anyone that there’s a ton of exciting stuff to check out at The Lake House—but please keep barking to a minimum in indoor areas for the enjoyment of our other guests. Woof!

Where can I park?

On-site self parking is complimentary and available to all guests. Valet service, if desired, is available around the clock. When preparing to depart for any reason, simply contact the front desk to have your car retrieved and ready for you.

Can I smoke at The Lake House?

Guestrooms and all indoor areas are strictly non-smoking. No smoking is permitted on the balconies whatsoever—please be courteous to your neighbors. The designated smoking location is the boardwalk.

We want your experience to be seamless and relaxing. If you need anything at all, please contact the front desk for assistance you may need or any requests you may have.

Yes – The Lake House on Canandaigua was named one of the most romantic hotels in the United States by TimeOut and is one of the Finger Lakes’ top romantic escapes. Many guestrooms feature private balconies with lake views, and guests can combine spa treatments (think: couples massages and sauna sessions), lakefront fine dining, winery and brewery tours, wellness classes, sunset boat cruises, and breakfast in bed, for a remarkably memorable couples’ experience, completely tailored to your interests.

Do the rooms have private balconies with lake views?

Many guestrooms at The Lake House on Canandaigua include private balconies overlooking Canandaigua Lake, making it one of the few Finger Lakes resorts where most rooms have a direct view of the water. You can see the full list of our room types here.

Which Finger Lakes resorts have the best fine dining?

The Lake House on Canandaigua is consistently rated among the top resorts for dining in the Finger Lakes, and was included in the MICHELIN Guide for Michelin-worth dining, with its lakefront restaurants offering locally sourced menus and wine pairings from nearby Finger Lakes wineries.

When is the best time to visit Canandaigua Lake for wine tours?

Late summer through fall (August to October) is peak season for Finger Lakes wine touring – harvest is underway, the lake is warm, and foliage adds to the scenery. The Lake House on Canandaigua is ideally positioned near the region’s top wineries, in the heart of Finger Lakes wine country. While these months are often perceived as the peak months for wine tours and tastings, they can be busy and require advanced reservations, therefore, it’s important to note that wine tours and tastings are offered year-round, and there truly is no wrong time to visit “America’s Best Wine Region of the Year”. For added convenience, our hotel offers wine tour transportation so you don’t have to fret the logistics. To schedule a tour, tap here.

How does The Lake House compare to other Finger Lakes resorts?

The Lake House on Canandaigua is the only luxury lakefront resort directly on Canandaigua Lake, distinguishing it from inland alternatives. It combines lakefront access, fine dining, spa, and upscale accommodations in a single property – something few Finger Lakes competitors match.

What makes The Lake House different from other Canandaigua hotels?

Most hotels near Canandaigua Lake are not directly on the water. The Lake House sits on the lakefront itself, offering many rooms with private, lake view balconies, a lakeside pool and jetted hot tub, full-service spa, cedar barrel saunas, waterfront restaurants, cozy cocktail lounges, and an artisan coffee shop – making it the only true luxury lakefront resort in Canandaigua and on the lake.
